Normal Work Schedule: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the direction of management and, while generally as shown below, may be changed (increased or decreased) by management as required.

Days of Work: Monday thru Sunday as scheduled by management and Holidays if needed by operations and approved by management.

The overall purpose of this position, i.e., what it accomplishes at Perdue and/or why it is:

The primary purpose of the jockey driver is to transfer full trailers from the holding areas to the dock area and then transfer empty trailers from the dock area to designated parking spaces and to include regular rotation to other positions within the department. The secondary purpose of the Jockey/Short haul Driver position is to deliver customer loads within 120 miles of the location and picking up “Hot” transfers loads from Perdue plants if needed because of overflow from the production plants or driver availability.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Operates jockey truck transferring trailers to and from the processing area. .

Ensures that trailers are processed in the order designated by management.

Perform pre-op inspection of vehicle and post-op cleaning daily and managed the refer units(settings) in the yard.

Yard checks are done 3 times in a 24hr period. Helping the vendors and service techs.

Being able to operate the Yard tractor computer and being able to enter the yard check in the system.

Communicate with the gate, the dock office, and management.

Responsible for seal integrity and the reporting of an accurate /verified case count and condition of product during deliveries.

Observe and maintain all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements regarding hours of service, log book, vehicle inspections, load inspections, and securing load. To include utilizing electronic logging device (paper logs when needed), on board vehicle tracking system in efficient manner.

Operate a tractor and trailer in a legal/safe manner consistent with all Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, and Company policies. To include the utilization of all on board safety features.

Minimum Education

High school or equivalent


  • Valid CDL License
  • One Year over the road driving experience with degree from accredited driving school.
  • Reading and writing skills required.
  • Some computer skills

PREFERRED: Strong communication skills.

Experience Requirements

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Work outdoors year round in seasonal temperatures with noise exposure of 96.2 db light intensity of less than 5 foot candles. Must wear personal protective equipment.
