Summary

To manage the accounting activities for the Grain Business Unit in accordance with GAAP and corporate accounting policies including timely and accurate financial reporting, operations analysis, capital planning, and business forecasting.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain proper accounting procedures and internal controls for the Grain Facilities / Grain Trading activities in accordance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • In accordance with the company accounting calendar, preparation of monthly closing activities for assigned areas of responsibility. Duties to include inventory review and control, income statement account reviews and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Review weekly profit estimates and other operating statistics including preparation of weekly variance explanations / month – end outlook for the Grain business unit.
  • Participate in preparation of annual and quarterly Operating Income forecasts and Overhead Budget process for assigned areas of responsibility. Participate in the annual strategic process for Grain and quarterly reviews of strategic projects and income.
  • Prepare / Review the monthly reconciliation of cash activities (contracts and inventory) to futures (hedge positions). Review documentation of month end inventory valuations used in the monthly Brought to market calculations. Reconcile open and closed futures as well as broker commissions for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Monthly preparation of Grain Variance reporting to analyze monthly and YTD variances between the forecast and actual results, for all activities including commodity variances, CBOT differences, inventory BTM variances, and other factors. Discuss, review and agree variances with SVP Grain and Head Commodity Traders each month for SOX compliance.
  • Develop / Assist in development of reporting and analysis to help management in the decision making to improve Business Unit performance including evaluation of AgTech Inventory Costing. Develop more trend reporting and high level “real time” comparison reporting.
  • Assist in the management of 3rd party Warehouse locations including set up / understanding of the agreement, monthly payments and accruals, oversight of transactions / inventory management, crop year settle-ups, UCC filings, signage posting, etc.
  • Perform ad hoc reporting, analysis and research various data as needed by management.

Minimum Education

  • BS/BA degree (Accounting or Accounting Concentration) - REQUIRED
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA would be preferred and beneficial

Experience Requirements

  • 10 + years of solid Accounting experience
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • Understanding of systems and software applications
  • Knowledge of Agribusiness and/or manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Agriculture Commodity Trading & Hedge Positions
  • Knowledge of CBOT futures

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Normal climate controlled office environment. Able to communicate on the telephone and use standard office equipment. Able to move freely throughout the facility. Able to move freely throughout the Division facilities to include climbing heights (0-150’), exposure to extreme temperatures (0-100 Degrees Fahrenheit, humidity, (0-100%), noise (50db to 100db) and chemicals (MSDS sheets available). Able to travel to remote Agribusiness facilities and other locations as required.
