BASIC FUNCTIONS

Provides overall direction and guidance of Perdue Premium Meat Company transportation activities to increase efficiency and profitability. The responsibilities will include the development of operating plan, tracking, reporting and analysis of financial performance throughout the year. Position requires leadership of the day-to-day activities of the transportation organization relative to the short and long-range goals of the company.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide overall guidance and work expertise to the team. Manage individual and team performance, development, and engagement. Lead the team to:
  • Minimize company risk and maintain compliance in areas of trade, regulatory, and product safety
  • Effectively and cost efficiently move product to all co-packer, cold storage and customer destinations
  • Leverage analytics for data-driven decision making
  • Create and execute strategies for forecasting, carrier relations and freight management to improve productivity and reduce freight costs while improving business profitability
  • Coordinate LTL shipments across brands
  • Develop and manage the freight operating budget with the goal of negotiating and selecting the best carriers, optimizing costs, while providing the best service model for the company
  • Develop carrier service requirements and expectations
  • Manage transportation contracts and service performance
  • Responsible for enabling technology and process improvement
  • Identify tools to forecast, track and report relevant operating performance measures for all logistics functions to maintain cost effectiveness
    • Develop procedures to analyze financial performance. Provide recommendations for improving accuracy of financial analysis
  • Collaborate and cross-sell with all PPMC divisions to strengthen our brand awareness as a single-source supply chain partner
  • Deliver clear, honest, and proactive communication to customers and carriers

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / JOB TRAINING
  • BS Supply Chain, Operations or Business Management or 10+ years of Traffic/Logistics/Operations experience
  • Experience in managing perishable LTL traffic required. Meat industry logistics experience preferred.
  • 7-10 years of employee management
  • Previous experience in a fast paced, high volume orgaization, which mandates quick decision-making and effective and effective communication
  • Expansive exposure and experience in contract negotiations
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and freight rating software
