Summary

The Compost Operator is responsible for the mixing and blending of various feed stocks with the purpose of creating a value-added compost by completing all of the steps necessary in adding and mixing wet and dry matter together, transporting to the “in vessel” composting area, covering the pile and monitoring the temperatures and air flow to complete a finished compost. Screening and moving material on the yard as needed. Loading Trucks with finished material that has passed permit requirements. In addition, to the housekeeping of the site and monitoring leached water to ensure we meet and exceed all environmental requirements.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate and provide assistance with the applicable heavy equipment used in mixing, turning and screening the compost
  • Operate front end loader in accordance with safety and environmental requirements
  • Housekeeping in accordance with safety and environmental requirements
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on the equipment
  • Recognize environmental and safety hazards and take actions to ensure the hazards are communicated/reported/corrected
  • Complete daily monitoring and documentation of the process on a timely basis

Minimum Education

HS Diploma or equivalent

Experience Requirements

1 to 3 years of experience working in and/or around environments with machines. Valid driver's license.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Able to operate a motor vehicle if needed. Exposed to external weather conditions to include rain, snow and extreme temperatures (-15 - 90 Degrees Fahrenheit), humidity, (0 - 100%), and noise (50db to 100db). Able to use standard office equipment to include telephone, copiers, etc if needed. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
